1. Terms of Service

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using HIPAA Lab (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Educational Purpose & Non-Legal Advice

The content, coursework, quizzes, and materials provided on this website are for general educational purposes only. They do not constitute formal legal advice, compliance auditing, or legal counsel. Users seeking legal compliance guidance should consult a qualified privacy attorney.

Government Non-Endorsement Disclaimer

HIPAA Lab is an independent private entity. The Service, its training tracks, and its PDF Certificates of Completion are not affiliated with, endorsed by, accredited by, or connected to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), or any federal or state agency.

Workforce Training & Compliance Limitations

Issuance of a Certificate of Completion indicates only that an individual completed specific educational coursework under 45 CFR § 164.530(b). Completing a course does not guarantee full statutory compliance, provide audit immunity, or prevent regulatory enforcement actions against an individual or business.

Strict Prohibition of Real PHI Submissions

You agree never to upload, input, submit, or transmit real Protected Health Information (PHI) or real patient records anywhere on this website, including in user profiles, support tickets, contact forms, or sandbox exercises. All scenarios used on this platform utilize synthetic dummy data.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HIPAA Lab shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the use or inability to use our materials, or for any regulatory fines, audits, or legal actions faced by you or your employer.

2. Privacy Policy

  • Account & Profile Data: Name, email address, password hash, and job title provided upon registration.
  • Coursework Data: Quiz scores, track progress, completion timestamps, and generated Certificate IDs.
  • Technical Data: IP address, browser type, device information, and access logs.

How We Use Your Information

  • To deliver, maintain, and grade certification courses.

3. Cookie Policy

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device to ensure basic site functionality, secure user sessions, and gather anonymous usage analytics.

Types of Cookies We Use

  • Essential Cookies: Required for logging into your account, maintaining session state across quiz modules, and securing application endpoints.
  • Analytics Cookies: Used to analyze aggregated traffic patterns and help us improve overall course UX. We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager. These cookies are set only after you accept analytics in the consent banner, and we never transmit names, email addresses, certificate numbers, or any Protected Health Information (PHI) to Google.

Managing Cookies

You can accept or decline analytics cookies using the consent banner shown on your first visit; declining keeps analytics disabled. You can also disable or block cookies through your web browser settings. However, disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging into your account or completing exam modules.
